A Chinese restaurant in Kabul, Afghanistan

Editor's note: All had thought that few foreign businesses would set foot in chaotic Afghanistan, but actually there is one – the Tang Chinese Restaurant in downtown Kabul. The head chef, surnamed Jia, comes from China and specializes in Sichuan and Shandong cuisine as well as Muslim food. Together with his six Afghan employees, Jia takes great pains to build up his business and their efforts have eventually been rewarded. In the past six years, the restaurant has become a peaceful station where local citizens take a breather and the Chinese citizens feel as comfortable as if they were at home. The following group of photos records the daily life of Jia.

Mr. Jia stays at the Tang Chinese Restaurant in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Oct. 19, 2015. Jia has been working here as the head chef for six years and the restaurant is well received by both the local Afghan people and the Chinese citizens. Although seldom going out, Jia still pays great attention to the situation of the outside world. [Photo by Zhang Chaohui/China.org.cn]
