According to the latest figures issued by the US Department of Commerce. China has become the biggest trade partner of the US, replacing the former biggest, Canada.

The statistics show, by September, China-US trade volume hit over 550 billion US dollars, which accounts for over 17 percent of the US total.

Meanwhile the country's trade volume with Canada dropped around 15 percent to about 480 billion dollars.

Before this ranking was published, actually China had surpassed Canada to be the US's biggest source of imports. The drop in oil prices has triggered a decline in Canada's energy exports, and led to the change.
