China will deepen mutually beneficial cooperative ties with Costa Rica and promote the development of bilateral ties in an all-round manner, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Tuesday.
China has taken note of the presidential election in which Costa-Rica's ruling party candidate, Laura Chinchilla, won, spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said at a regular press briefing.
"Chinese President Hu Jintao has delivered his congratulations," Ma said, adding that the election proceeded smoothly.
China-Costa Rica relations have developed significantly since the establishment of diplomatic relations in June 2007, Ma said.
He hailed political mutual trust, economic and trade cooperation, cultural and educational exchanges, and cooperation in international affairs.
Laura Chinchilla, thanks to the victory in the Feb. 8 election, will become the first female head of state in Costa-Rican history.
