Denmark and the People's Republic of China celebrated fruitful Sino-Danish relations yesterday, as May 11 marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Both the Danish Embassy in Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Copenhagen held receptions. Among the guests to attend in Beijing were Danish Permanent Secretary of State Claus Grube and Chinese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Fu Ying. A number of former Chinese ambassadors to Denmark and other VIPs were also in attendance.

Danish Ambassador to China Mr. Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen personally greeted all 300 guests upon their arrival at the reception.

Mr. Grube, who traveled to China specifically for the celebration, praised the progress in cooperation between the two countries, including the collaborative efforts made in the field of clean-technology.

In Copenhagen, Denmark's Minister for Foreign Affairs Lene Espersen attended the reception at the Chinese Embassy. She then held an even larger reception that night for Chinese diplomats at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Danish consulates across China will hold activities over the next few weeks to celebrate the past 60 years, including the unveiling of the Nordic Lighthouse in Shanghai on May 12. The Nordic Lighthouse will present Danish and Nordic designs, architecture and food. It will feature exhibitions, events and competitions throughout the entire Expo period. The Danish Consulate in Chongqing also plans to host a special “Danish Week” from June 4-12, packed with jazz concerts, a Danish film festival, a Hans Christian Andersen exhibition and many other events.
