Japanese chemical tanker robbed off Indonesia

A chemical tanker operated by a Japanese firm has been robbed of money while it was sailing off the Anambas Islands, Indonesia, according to Kyodo News, citing information obtained by Japan's transport ministry.

The incident involving the tanker operated by Tokyo-based Iino Kaiun Kaisha Ltd. occurred shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday, Japan time. No one was injured and there was no damage to the tanker.

According to the information received by Kyodo, two pirates carrying knives boarded the ship and fled the scene after stealing cash.

It is the ninth incident this year in which a ship operated by a Japanese firm has been attacked by pirates.
