China and New Zealand on Tuesday pledged to promote cooperation in law enforcement sector.

China's Public Security Minister Meng Jianzhu and visiting New Zealand Commissioner of Police Howard Broad reached the above agreement in their meetings in Beijing.

Meng, also a state councilor, hoped the police organs from both sides would work together to combat cross-border crimes and safeguard legal rights of overseas citizens in each other's country.

Broad and China's Vice Minister for Public Security Meng Hongwei on earlier Tuesday signed a document on bilateral cooperation in fighting crimes.
