A special performance of the Cuban National Ballet Friday night marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and Cuba.

The groupe performed "Dancers" and other classical programs at the Grand Theatre Gracia Lorca.

Chinese ambassador to Cuba Liu Yuqin, who watched the performance, acknowledged the efforts of both Cuban and Chinese governments in enhancing cultural exchanges, including the annual Chinese Culture Festival celebrated here.

Liu stressed that Cuba was the first Latin American country to recognize the People's Republic of China and, since then, both nations have shared a promising future constructing socialism for the welfare of their peoples.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and Minister of Culture Abel Prieto together with local officials also watched the performance.

Liu said that, in the face of tests during the past five decades and constant changes in an often volatile world, China-Cuba relations remained friendly and cooperative and had brought mutual benefits to both countries.

China is Cuba's second largest trade partner and is interested in continuing to strengthen the bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields with Cuba.

Activities marking the 50th anniversary of China-Cuba diplomatic ties, including ballet performances, martial arts exhibitions and traditional art expositions, will last from Sept. 10 to 28.
