The death toll from Monday's boat accident off the Indian Ocean islands of Comoros has risen to 38 while about 60 others aboard survived, the Comoros Red Cross said on Tuesday in a statement.
The statement said that the accident could have been caused by bad weather, overloading and bad technical condition.
Local officials said that the boat was carrying 93 passengers as the accident occurred.
The survivors were rushed to the nearest district hospitals in Foumbouni and Ouziwani and the dead bodies were taken to the El- Maarouf national hospital in Moroni where they will be preserved before the beginning of the identification process.
The Red Cross officials indicated that there were more bodies still floating in the Ocean and they will be recovered before being transferred to El-Maarouf national hospital.
The boat capsized on Monday when it traveled between two islands of the country.
The boat set out on Monday night from near the coast of Grande- Comore in the southern Comoros island. It was expected to dock at the Anjouan island (Ndzuwani) near Moroni.
