UN Deputy Secretary- General Asha-Rose Migiro will set off for a six-day visit to Uruguay to attend the High-Level Intergovernmental Conference on " Delivering as One," an effort to foster greater cooperation and more efficient teamwork within the UN system, a spokesperson said here Friday.

Migiro will visit Uruguay from Nov. 6 to 11 for the intergovernmental conference and meetings with senior officials from several countries, said UN spokesman Martin Nesirky at a daily news briefing.

Delivering as One is an initiative launched by the United Nations in 2007 to respond to the challenges of a changing world and test how the UN family can provide development assistance in a more coordinated way, including eight pilot countries such as Albania, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Pakistan, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uruguay, and Viet Nam.

"The meeting will be an opportunity to share the experiences of the Delivering as One approach, take stock of the progress made, and identify challenges," Nesirky said.

Eight pilot countries of the initiative are expected to agree on an outcome statement to send a strong message supporting this approach, said the spokesman.

The deputy secretary-general will meet with Uruguayan president and foreign minister, as well as ministers from other countries attending the intergovernmental conference.

She will also participate in an event of a UN campaign to end violence against women, and attend a special meeting of women ministers and parliamentarians of Mercosur (Common Southern Market) with Michele Bachelet, the executive director of UN Women, said Nesirky.
