Jan. 15-20, 2001: At the invitation of the Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Kim made another visit to China for six days in 2001.

President Jiang and Kim again held talks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, discussing further development of party and state relations between the two countries as well as major international issues of common concern. They agreed that both countries would make a tradition of such meetings between the two leaders.

Before their meeting, Kim and his entourage paid a four-day visit to Shanghai.
