The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday afternoon expressed firm opposition to a Tibet-related resolution approved Tuesday by the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a regular press conference that the Chinese government is committed to protecting both the legitimate rights of people of all nationalities and their freedom of religious belief.

Some U.S. senators "confused right and wrong," the spokesman said, urging them to "recognize facts" and "abandon prejudices," and "stop interfering in China's internal affairs in any way."

He advised those U.S. senators to do more things conducive to China-U.S. relations, not vice versa.
