About 91 Egyptians were injured in clashes erupted Saturday between supporters of the unqualified presidential candidate Hazem Abou Ismail and inhabitants of Abbaseya district in the Egyptian capital of Cairo, official news agency MENA reported.
The clashes broke out during a march organized by Abou Ismail supporters from the Tahrir square to Abbaseya district where the Ministry of Defense lies. As the march caused a crippled traffic in Abbaseye, the inhabitants tried to thwart it, which led to serious quarrles between both sides.
According to Hesham Sheiha, undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, 14 cases whose injuries range between fractures and gunshots were transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment, while other 77 injured were treated in an out-patient clinic as they sustained minor injuries.
Abou Ismail supporters are in an open ended sit-in in Tahrir square to protest the decision of the Presidential elections commission, excluding Abou Ismail from the presidential contest, claiming his mother had a U.S. passport.
