Afghan and NATO-led troops during special operations captured a Taliban key commander named Mullah Abdul Rahman from Kunduz province 250 km north of Kabul early Saturday, police said.

"Acting on tape off, a unit of special forces of Afghan and NATO-led troops raided Taliban hideout in Ghondi village of Chardara district in the wee hours of today capturing Mullah Abdul Rahman along with one of his bodyguards," provincial police spokesman Sayed Sarwar Hussaini told Xinhua.

Describing the arrest as a major setback to the Taliban militants, Hussaini stressed that Mullah Rahman had also served as Taliban shadowy governor in Kunduz province besides organizing Taliban attacks in adjoining areas.

He also added that the arrested Rahman had been taken to unknown place for interrogation.

Taliban militants fighting the government and NATO-led troops are yet to make comment.
