The Egyptian Higher Electoral Commission (HEC) will announce the final results of the constitutional referendum on Tuesday, official news agency MENA reported Monday.
The results will include the number of votes in the two rounds of the referendum, MENA stated.
As many as 25 million eligible voters in 17 governorates, including Giza, Suez, Ismailia and Port Said, cast their votes Saturday to determine the destiny of the country's draft constitution, while the first stage in last week covered Cairo, Alexandria and eight other governorates, according to a republican decree issued by President Mohamed Morsi on Dec. 12.
Islamists and conservatives are the main advocates of the new constitution, while liberals, leftists and Copts, mostly represented in the National Salvation Front, oppose it wholeheartedly.
The initial results of the referendum showed approval of 63.5 percent of voters of the newly-written constitution.
Egypt's main opposition bloc named "the National Salvation Front" said in a press conference Sunday that it would appeal the result of the constitutional referendum that initially showed approval of the draft constitution, claiming it was based on fraud.
