Egypt's Minister of Legislative Affairs and Parliamentary Councils Mohamed Mahsoub submitted his resignation to President Mohamed Morsi on Thursday, state-run al- Ahram online reported.

"Many policies of the government contradict with my beliefs and do not express the Egyptians' aspirations," Mahsoub said in his resignation.

Mahsoub's resignation came after Morsi's remarks Wednesday that he is discussing a cabinet reshuffle with Prime Minister Hesham Qandil.

In a related context, the Islamist Wassat party issued a statement earlier Thursday urging Qandil to resign, otherwise the cabinet's "decisive decisions and solid power" would be undermined.
