US investigates Boeing 787 in Japan

A group of U.S. aviation experts arrived in Takamatsu Airport in western Japan early Friday to investigate an emergency landing made by a Boeing 787 due to appearance of smoke inside the jet.
The four-member group is from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the Federal Aviation Administration and Boeing and is headed by Lorenda Ward, an investigator from the NTSB.
The investigators will focus on the battery in the Boeing 787 dreamliner as Japan Transport Safety Board has found that a Japan- made battery installed in an electrical room below the cockpit is believed to have overheated and emitted smoke due to excessive electrical pressure.
A Boeing 787 operated by All Nippon Airways made an emergency landing at Takamatsu Airport early Wednesday, marking the latest defect exposed after a series of accidents by the Boeing's newest jet.
As of now, many countries have suspended operations of their Boeing 787 until the safety of the aircraft is assured.
