U.S. Authorities on Friday confirmed 14 deaths in the fatal fertilizer plant explosion in the state of Texas.

Authorities confirmed 12 deaths Friday morning, but have since located two more additional fatalities, bringing the total to 14, Jason Reyes with Texas Department of Public Safety told a news conference here.

Earlier Friday, U.S. Senator John Cornyn said here that 60 people remained unaccounted for after Wednesday's explosion at the fertilizer plant in the Texas city of West.

Authorities expect the number of people unaccounted for to come down, he added.

Rescuers are still searching buildings in West for survivors or bodies of the deceased.

The powerful blast occurred around 7:50 p.m. local time Wednesday at a fertilizer plant in West, a small town some 320 km north of Houston. It also left about 200 people injured.
