Seven kidnappers killed in southern Nigeria

At least seven suspected kidnappers have been killed in southern Nigeria's Anambra State, according to the police reports received here on Saturday.

State police spokesperson Emeka Chukwuemeka said in the reports that the two others were captured by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in the state.

Chukweumeka said that the incident took place at Aguleri in the Anambra East Local Council Area of the state at around 4.00 p.m. local time on Friday.

The spokesman said two of the suspects were captured at the point of collecting a ransom of 5 million naira.

He said the suspects later took security force to their hideout, where some kidnapped people were rescued unhurt at about 8.30 p.m. local time.

A Lebanese contractor, kidnapped on May 7, was among those who were freed.
