Three people, including a policeman, have been kidnapped at Al-Kuma town in Sudan's North Darfur state, a local official said Saturday.

"An armed group belonging to the rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM)/Jibril Ibrahim faction on Saturday abducted three people, including a policeman belonging to the central reserve forces at Al-Kuma town in North Darfur state," Suleiman Rabih, commissioner of Al-Kuma locality, told Xinhua.

He said the rebel force obstructed a vehicle which was heading to Nyala and abducted the three people to an unknown location, adding that the policeman was on his way to receive medical treatment.

The Sudanese army is fighting rebel groups in the Darfur region under the revolutionary front alliance.

The alliance brings together the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector and three Darfur rebel movements including the JEM/Jibril Ibrahim faction, the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA)/Abdul-Wahid Mohamed Nur faction and the SLA/Minni Minawi faction.
