Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has voiced his concern about provocations and tensions on the Korean Peninsula on Sunday after a media report said that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) fired a short-range missile into the East Sea.

The launch came a day after the DPRK fired three short-range guided missiles into the same body of water, Yonhap News Agency said.

Ban remains concerned about provocations and tensions on the Korean Peninsula, “particularly given the risks of miscalculation and dangerous escalation,” according to Ban's spokesperson.

The Secretary-General stands ready to help facilitate the process of peace and trust-building on the Korean Peninsula, the spokesperson added.
