Norwegian mass killer Anders Behring Breivik, who got 21-year prison sentence for murdering 77 people in 2011 attacks in Norway, was accepted by the University of Oslo to study political science, BBC reported.

Breivik is only allowed to study modules in prison but he will not be granted a degree by the university.

Oslo University's president Ole Petter Ottersen defended the university's decision to accept Breivik, arguing that all citizens had a right to pursue higher education.

He said Breivik's application was handled according to the rules that "does not imply that Norwegians lack passion or that anger and vengefulness are absent."

The president said the university's decision only indicated that "our values are fundamentally different from his."
