At least six guns were stolen from the Kenya Police Reservists and a school was torched when armed assailants raided Pandanguo village in Kenya's coastal Lamu County Thursday night.

"We received reports on an attack at a village where militia set ablaze Pandanguo primary school and several houses," Lamu County Commissioner Miiri Njenga said early on Friday, adding that casualties were feared.

Njenga said a combined team of the military and the General Service Unit (GSU) has been deployed to the area and the situation is now under control.

The latest incident came after police arrested 69 suspects in ongoing operations following the recent killings in the coastal region.

About 50 heavily-armed attackers struck a police station in Tana River County last Saturday, and left several people dead. Another group raided a town in Lamu on the same day.

Police have blamed the incidents on a separatist group of Mombasa Republican Council (MRC), who believe the coastal people's rights to land and property ownership have been violated.
