Liberia's aviation management has announced it will strictly adhere to preventive measures recommended by the nation's Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of deadly Ebola virus. The Roberts International Airport (RIA) management said in a statement Tuesday it will regulate people entering its facilities as a measure to prevent the spread of the virus, which has so far claimed about 129 lives in Liberia and about 700 lives in the West African countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The statement said only passengers with valid travel documents and properly identified business people will be allowed to enter RIA facilities until the Ministry of Health pronounces that Ebola is contained in the country.

Airport workers will be provided with water to wash their hands and gloves to prevent them from contracting the disease while performing their duties of checking in passengers coming in and leaving Liberia through the airport, the statement said.

In a related development, the Samaritan's Purse operating along with the Sudan Interior Mission (SIM) has threatened to pack and leave Liberia if its staffs in Lofa are prevented from doing their job.

Samaritan's Purse reached the decision Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Health's Assistant Minister for Preventive Services, Tolbert Nyansue.

"Our people in Lofa are throwing stones at the workers and their safety is the organization's paramount concern now," Assistant Minister Nyansue said.

Sudan Interior Mission and the medical group, Samaritan's Purse are the two organizations working closely to combat Ebola since its outbreak in Liberia in March, 2014.
