Seven members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) carried out a massive air defense drill on Tuesday involving over 100 aircraft, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Five Russian Tu-160, Tu-95MS and Tu-22M3 heavy bombers acted as invading or terrorists-hijacked aircraft in the day-long war game, which started at 8 a.m. local time (0400 GMT), according to the ministry's press service.

Over 100 MiG-31, MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters as well as Ka-27 and Mi-28 helicopters from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Armenia also took part in the exercises, it added.

The drill was supervised by the Russian Aerospace Defense Forces Command Center, which is based in Moscow region, and involved more than 130 command centers in the seven participating countries, which also include Tajikistan.
