UK-China Mobility Forum 2014 was held Friday in London, celebrating and reflecting on 40 years of students exchange in the two countries.

Organized by the British Council and the Chinese Embassy, the UK-China Mobility Forum 2014 was held Friday afternoon in Lecture Theater in London, about 200 student representatives, scholars and government officials took part in the forum.

"For the past four decades, hundreds of thousands of Chinese students and scholars have studied in the UK, in return, many British students have come to China. This forty years of flourishing and fruitful China-UK student exchange is inspirational for both countries. There are many mutual benefit," Chinese ambassador Liu Xiaoming said on the forum.

He said that forty years ago, the first group of students sent by new China numbered only 16, and there were only 11 British students in China.

"Today, there are over 130,000 Chinese students in the UK ... Britain ranks the second in the world and the first in Europe in terms of receiving Chinese students. Chinese students have become the largest overseas student community in the UK, meanwhile, almost 5,500 British students are now studying in China," he added.

"We are here today to discuss and find ways to encourage further students exchange and to increase student mobility between UK and China in the coming forty years," said Susan Milner, director of Education for the British Council in China.

Two student representatives shared their own experiences about studying and living in each other's countries on the forum.
