A Danish national has been confirmed dead while two police officers wounded in a shooting that occurred the second time in the capital city within 24 hours, police said on Sunday.

Police did not disclose the exact time of the second shooting, only telling that it happened at a synagogue on Krystalgade, or Crystal Street, in downtown Copenhagen.

"There were police on the spot when a person came and started shooting," Copenhagen police spokesman, Allan Wadsworth-Hansen, was quoted by Danish news agency Ritzau as saying at a press briefing in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased who had been shot in the head was just out of the synagogue, according to the police, while the two police officers were hit in the leg and arm respectively. Both are now out of danger.

On Saturday afternoon, a gunman attacked a cultural center, where a debate was held over topics of free speech, killing a 55-year-old Danish man and wounding three police officers. Police initially said the dead was a 40-year-old.

No arrests have been made by the police surrounding the shootings, and police said it is still too early to tell if the two cases are related.

A massive manhunt of the gunmen is under way.
