Some 13 passengers were killed and two others wounded after gunmen shot at three vehicles in the eastern Afghan province of Wardak early Tuesday morning, an official source said.

"Gunmen shot at three vehicles, including a bus, killing 13 passengers and injuring two others," the provincial government said in a statement.

One woman was among the killed and his nine-year-old son aboard the bus was wounded, the statement added.

The firing took place in Haft Hasyab locality, Sayyed Abad district along the main road connecting national capital of Kabul to southern Kandahar province. The injured were shifted to hospitals, the statement said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

About 10,000 civilians were killed and injured in Taliban-led insurgency and conflicts in the central Asian country in 2014, according to UN mission officials.
