The opposition Party was believed to have won about 24 percent of the votes, and hopefully would get about 50 out of the 200 seats in the parliament, said Yle.

It was followed by the National Coalition Party, the Social Democratic Party, and the Finns Party, whose results were quite close with each other, according to the prognosis.

As a common practice, if the Center Party wins, the party chair Juha Sipila will become the new prime minister, and will take the responsibility to form a new government.

One of the largest four political parties Finland, the Center has been the ruling party in Finland many times since the country got independent in 1917. The party was defeated in the parliamentary election in 2011 and became the opposition.

Yle has been making election forecasts since the 1960s. The election forecasts are done based on a large information package provided by the Ministry of Justice, which is updated every five minutes.

Heimo Penttinen, election expert at Yle, said the forecasts have always been quite accurate, with only one exception in 1980s.

Penttinen said the percentage could be accurate, but the seats each party wins are difficult to predict, as dozens of votes can change the results.
