China voiced expectations for new progress in the upcoming Iranian nuclear talks scheduled for Friday in Vienna, in order to create conditions for a comprehensive deal by June 30.

Kang Yong, deputy director-general of the Department of Arms Control of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, will lead the Chinese delegation for the talks, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hong Lei told a regular press briefing on Thursday.

According to a statement from the European Union External Action, the talks will be based on key understandings reached in Switzerland on April 2, and participants will continue to work toward a comprehensive solution on the Iranian nuclear issue.

An experts' meeting is scheduled ahead of the talks to work on the technical details necessary to finalize the political work.

China hopes parties concerned will accommodate each other's concerns and resolve remaining issues as soon as possible to create favorable conditions for the final deal by June 30, Hong said.

On April 2, Iran and six major powers reached a framework deal in which Iran agreed to reduce its nuclear program, and in return, the United States and five other powers agreed to lift certain sanctions imposed on Tehran.

Iran and the six major powers, namely, the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany, have set June 30 as the deadline for a final deal.
