People look for their belongings after their houses were damaged in the earthquake in Sindhupalchowk, Nepal, May 2, 2015. The death toll from last Saturday's powerful earthquake in Nepal reached 6,659 and a total of 14,062 others were injured, the country's home ministry said on Saturday. [Xinhua]

At least 7,040 persons were confirmed dead with the number of injured exceeding 14,000 in the last Saturday's devastating quake in Nepal, according to the country's Ministry of Home Affairs Saturday.

The ministry said those among the killed included nine Nepalese Army personnel, four Nepalese Police personnel, one Armed Police Force staffer, four civil servants and 54 foreigners.

Severely-hit regions including Gorkha have been expecting for more aid.

Rescue missions failed to reach such remote areas as Gorkha due to road traffic obstructions.

Insufficient food and water supply as well as poor sanitation have been posing threat to thousands living in makeshift tents.

Some residents in Kathmandu have moved back to their damaged houses as efforts to retrieve bodies from the rubbles continued despite dwindling hope to find more survivors a week after the deadly 7.9-magnitude quake.
