Ten people including seven Taliban militants were killed as clash erupted in Khawjaghar district of the northern Takhar province on Friday, district governor Mohammad Omar said. "A group of militants attacked security checkpoints in Tashkotal area of Khawjaghar district today morning, triggering gun battle which is still continuing and so far 10 people including seven insurgents and three police have been killed," Omar told Xinhua.

Taliban militants conducted the attack from the neighboring Dasht-e-Archi district, the official added.

Dasht-e-Archi and Chardara districts were captured by Taliban militants over the weekend.

However, the security forces in counter-offensive regained the control of Chardara on Monday but efforts for retaking Dasht-e- Archi district have been continuing.

Governor of Khawjaghar district has warned the central government to take necessary steps for evicting Taliban from Dasht- e-Archi district in its earliest, otherwise, Khawjaghar would collapse.
