The attack was carried out with a tractor loaded with two tonnes of explosives on a gendarmerie outpost located in the Dogubeyazit district of Agri province, bordering Iran, the statement said.

On Saturday, a Turkish soldier was killed in a land mine blast in the Kagizman town of Turkey's eastern province of Kars.

Kars Governor Gunay Ozdemir said the blast took place while the security forces were sweeping mines. The land mine is suspected to be planted by the PKK.

Tensions with PKK and Turkish troops and policemen have been mounting following a tumultuous week that began with an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) suicide bomb which killed 32 and injured 104 activists in the town of Suruc in Sanliurfa.

Turkish security forces have detained over 1,300 individuals with suspected ties to ISIL, PKK, and leftist groups, according to a statement from the Turkish prime minister's office.
