South Korea and the United States reconfirmed a close partnership as top diplomats of the two countries met on the sidelines of the Conference on Global Leadership in the Arctic held in Anchorage, Alaska, on Monday ( local time), Seoul's foreign ministry said Tuesday.

During the meeting, South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry reviewed the close coordination in dealing with landmine blasts and exchange of fires by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) as well as the agreement on Aug. 25 reached at the inter-Korean meeting of high- ranking officials.

Kerry said that Washington has been keeping a "superb partnership" with Seoul on security issues, re-confirming his country's firm commitment to defending the South Korean territory.

Yun and Kerry emphasized the importance of China's " constructive role" for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula during the meeting.

The two diplomats agreed to continue strategic dialogue to draw up a common understanding before the Oct. 16 summit talks between President Park and U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington.
