AU announces new round of peace talks in Sudan

The African Union (AU) Tuesday announced the resumption of negotiations on Nov.18 between Sudan's government, the Sudanese People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector and Darfur's armed movements in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
"The AU issued invites to Sudan's Foreign Minister, Ibrahim Ghandour, and heads of the armed movements," Mahmoud Kan, Chairperson of Khartoum's AU liaison office, told reporters Tuesday.
"Negotiations will take place between the government and the Darfur movements, as well as between the government and the SPLM/northern sector on Nov. 18 and 19," he added.
Nine rounds of talks between the Sudanese government and the SPLM/northern sector have failed to end the armed conflict between both sides.
The last talks were in December 2014.
Another round of talks between Khartoum and the Darfur movements also failed to agree to cease the hostilities.
The AU High-level Implementation Panel on Sudan (AUHIP) is disdainful toward the talks between the Sudanese government and the Darfur armed groups, fighting the government since 2003.
The AUHIP also heads the mediation between Khartoum and the SPLM/northern sector, who have been fighting the Sudanese government at the Blue Nile and South Kordofan areas since 2011.
