The Nobel Committee announced on October 5, 2015 that three scientists were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering “therapies that have revolutionized the treatment of some of the most devastating parasitic diseases”. Chinese scientist Tu Youyou is among the three awarded.

This is the very first time a Chinese scientist wins the laureate of Nobel, and this is also the highest prize so far in the field of medicine in China.

Tu, born in 1930, shared the prize with Irish-born William Campbell and Japan's Satoshi Omura for her discoveries concerning a novel therapy against malaria.
