Diego Guelar took up his new appointment on Friday as Argentina's new ambassador to Beijing .

The appointment was announced early December. In an interview with Argentina's Radio 10, Guejar said that bilateral relations have been enhanced over the last decade, as China has become Argentina's largest investor, largest financier and second-largest commercial partner.

Yet Guelar denied the comment that Argentina was becoming dependent on China during an interview with Argentine daily La Nacion. He noted that his country would not see an "invasion of Chinese workers."

"We must deepen the successes we have seen with China over the last decade," Guelar said.

The ambassador began his diplomatic career in 1989, serving in Argentina's embassy to the European Union during the administration of the then President Carlos Menem.

Later, he gained fame as one of Argentina's most distinguished diplomats by serving as ambassador to Brazil from 1995 to 1996 and ambassador to the U.S. for two separate terms (1996-1999 and 2002-2003).
