Nearly 60 people were killed and 78 others injured in twin suicide bomb attacks at a refugee camp in northeast Nigeria, local officials said Wednesday.

The explosions occurred Tuesday in the Dikwa town, some 90 km from the city of Maiduguri in the Borno state.

Satomi Ahmad, chairman of the State Emergency Management Agency, said two female suicide bombers sneaked into an internally displaced persons camp and detonated themselves in the middle of it.

An official statement by the state emergency team said the injured were being treated in some public hospitals within the province.

Refugees had queued up to receive food rations when the incident occurred, according to the statement.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks but local residents are suspecting Boko Haram, a Nigeria-based terror group which has spread its tentacles across the Lake Chad Basin, to have wreaked the havoc.
