Russia saw a significant increase of terrorism and extremism-related crimes in 2015, the Investigative Committee of Russia Federation reported on Monday.

In 2015, the country registered 1,329 extremist crimes, up 28.5 percent from 1,034 crimes in 2014, and 1,538 terrorism-related crimes, up 36.3 percent from 1,128 crimes in 2014, according to the committee, the country's top investigative authority.

Crimes like instigating extremist activity, inciting hatred or hostility, and humiliation increased by almost 40 percent year on year, the committee also said.

Both foreign and domestic factors were behind the growth of these types of crime.
