Guinea President Alpha Conde has invited opposition parties for political dialogue, in a bid to calm the political tension.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Conde said he had written an invitation letter to the opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo, president of the main opposition party Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea (UFDG).

Last week, Guinea's opposition parties launched a protest to demand implementation of political agreements signed on Aug. 20, 2015, on electoral issues.

The protest, termed as "peaceful" by the opposition, left one dead and about 20 others injured.

The opposition leaders later issued a statement expressing their willingness to dialogue with the government to review the clauses in the Aug. 20, 2015 report and to prevent the country from sliding into a new wave of violence.

Analysts say the president's call for dialogue has posed an opportunity for parties to find ways of easing the political tensions and maintaining peace after two years of a health crisis caused by the Ebola epidemic and economic difficulties.
