NATO launched a large-scale cyber defense exercise this week in Tallinn, Estonia, the security organization said Wednesday.

Locked Shields 2017, involves around 800 personnel from 25 nations, including Estonia, Britain, the United States, Finland and Sweden.

It is "the largest and most advanced cyber defense exercise in the world", according to NATO's statement.

Participants include security experts, policy officers and legal advisers from NATO allies and partners.

During the exercise, more than 2500 cyber-attacks will be simulated targeting a military air base of a fictitious country.

Experts will defend national IT systems against cyber-attacks targeting the base's electric power grid system, drones, military command and control systems and other infrastructure.

Locked Shields exercise has been organized by NATO's cooperative cyber defense center of excellence since 2010.
