U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will visit China on Sept. 30 at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said Wednesday.

The two sides will exchange views on bilateral ties, U.S. President Donald Trump's state visit to China this year, and major international and regional issues, Lu said.

China and the United States will hold their first social and people-to-people dialogue on Sept. 28 in Washington D.C.

Premier Li Keqiang met with visiting U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross on Sept. 26 in Beijing.

China-U.S. frequent high-level visits reflect normal and sound ties between the two countries, Lu said.

Since the Mar-a-Lago meeting between Chinese and U.S. heads of states in April, the leaders of the two countries, as well as personnel at all levels, are keeping close communication, Lu said.

He said that such communication is beneficial to the steady development of bilateral ties.

"The increasing cooperation not only brings benefits to the two countries and two peoples, but also accords with the common interests of all countries in the world," Lu said. "China is willing to work with the United States for a positive outcome with Trump's visit."

Lu said that China is ready to keep the momentum of communication and cooperation to promote bilateral ties.
