China and Japan will hold their eighth round of high-level consultations on maritime affairs in Shanghai on Tuesday and Wednesday, a foreign ministry spokesperson said Monday.

Officials from the foreign ministries, defense ministries, maritime law enforcement and management departments of both sides will attend the talks, spokesperson Geng Shuang told a routine news briefing.

China expects to fully exchange views with Japan on maritime issues of common concern, in a bid to strengthen understanding and mutual trust, Geng said.

The China-Japan High-level Consultations on Maritime Affairs were set up in 2012. The last round of consultations was held in Fukuoka, Japan in June this year.
