China, France to promote multilateral global climate governance

Special Envoy of President Xi Jinping and Chinese Vice Premier Ma Kai told French President Emmanuel Macron that China will firmly carry out its commitments under the framework of the Paris Agreement, and is willing to work with relevant parties, including France, to push forward the multilateral process of global climate governance.
Ma made the remarks when meeting Macron on Tuesday in Paris, where he was attending the One Planet Summit.
He first conveyed the warm greetings of the Chinese president and wished the meeting every success.
Ma said President Xi attaches great importance to Sino-French relations and the cooperation between the two sides on climate change.
The Chinese official also noted that bilateral relations have recently developed smoothly and are standing at a historic moment between the past and future.
China praises Macron's active support for the Belt and Road Initiative, Ma added, noting that the country is willing to work with France to maintain high-level contact and make use of bilateral cooperation mechanisms to coordinate together.
Ma also said that win-win cooperation in nuclear energy, aerospace, green finance and advanced manufacturing fields, will inject fresh impetus into the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Macron asked Ma to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi, whom he thanked for appointing Ma as a special envoy to attend the summit.
Macron said France attaches great importance to developing relations with China, and also hopes to maintain high-level contact.
France is willing to actively participate in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, Macron affirmed and added that his country will also work with China to play a better role in global climate governance.
The One Planet Summit was hosted by Macron on the occasion of the second anniversary of the Paris Agreement, a landmark climate deal reached at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris.
During the summit, Ma maintained that with the idea of building a community with a shared future for mankind, China will continuously and firmly support the Paris Agreement and work on the construction of a domestic ecological civilization.
