Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying made the remarks at a regular press briefing.

It was reported that the ROK coast guard on Tuesday fired more than 200 shots to expel over 40 Chinese fishing boats in ROK Exclusive Economic Zone after the boats ignored broadcast warnings.

"We hope that the ROK side can properly handle the issue, avoid taking extreme measures that endanger people's safety in the process of law enforcement, and protect Chinese fishermen's safety and legal rights," Hua said.

She added that China always attaches great importance to the management of overseas fisheries and takes effective measures to maintain the order of fisheries.

Hua urged the ROK enhance communication with China and work together to safeguard order of fishery production in related waters.
