A car bomb exploded in the town of Salouq on the outskirts of the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi on Saturday, according to a local source.

"A car bomb exploded at around 10:45 a.m. (08:45 GMT) near one of the main streets of Salouq without any casualties," a source of Benghazi security department told Xinhua.

The source suggested that the explosion might have been carried out remotely, where the car was seen earlier near the site.

"The car exploded near the house of Musa al-Nimr, an elder of the eastern region," the source added.

The Municipal Council of Salouq confirmed the bombing earlier in a post on its official Facebook page.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing so far.

Libya has been suffering insecurity and chaos since the fall of Gaddafi's regime in 2011. The North African nation is plagued with political division and escalating violence.
