A special event was held in Kathmandu on Friday evening to celebrate the Chinese Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the Lunar New Year.

The event, organized by Nepal China Cultural and Educational Council and the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, was inaugurated by Nepali Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun.

Over 100 people including former parliament speaker, former ministers, chief of army staff, political and business leaders, government officials and Chinese community living in Nepal attended the function.

Addressing the function, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong expressed belief that the festival will enhance the friendship between the two neighbors.

"Lantern Festival is an occasion for family gathering. Let's take this opportunity to pray for peace and prosperity of both nations," Yu said.

On the occasion, various cultural performances were showcased by students and cultural groups from both countries.

Guests were also provided with Tangyuan, a kind of round and sweet dumpling made of glutinous rice flour, the major delicacy of the Lantern Festival.
