Czech Foreign Ministry on Saturday said in a statement that the Czech government can not and will not give consent to illegal migration.

The ministry made the remarks in reaction to a global pact on migration agreed by UN member states Friday with an aim to better manage international migration.

The statement said the United Nations has so far only prepared a draft text that will be assessed by individual states at their national levels. The Czech Republic is yet to debate whether it will join the pact or not.

According to the statement, the Czech Republic has repeatedly stated it is fundamental that the text must sufficiently tackle illegal migration, in particular the issues of the return of refugees to their countries of origin, the fight against people smugglers and the problems leading to illegal migration.
