Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has met with the Chinese ambassador who said China would offer assistance to drought and flood-affected Afghans, the Afghan Presidential Palace said on Friday.

During the meeting on Thursday, Ambassador Liu Jinsong said China was ready to provide food and disaster management support to Afghans who had been affected by drought and flooding, the palace said in a statement.

China will also intensify efforts to provide more training programs for employees of Afghan ministries and other government-related departments, Liu was quoted as saying.

The statement came as Afghan agriculture officials warned that 15 of the country's 34 provinces were under severe drought threat and thousands of Afghans have been displaced in western Badghis, Herat and Ghor provinces recently.

President Ghani expressed his gratitude to the Chinese people and government for their assistance.
