Zambian Vice President Inonge Wina on Friday said the rolling out of a China-funded digital television project across the country will empower rural people with information to make informed decisions.

The project, part of the Access to Satellite TV for 10,000 African Villages, was officially launched by President Edgar Lungu in the eastern district of Vubwi recently and will see 500 villages access satellite television services.

The Zambian vice president said the project will enable people in rural parts of the country, who have no access to television, follow and know what was happening in the country and avoid being deceived by politicians.

She said during a vice president's question and answer session in parliament that the TV project is one such project which will bring tangible benefits to people in rural areas, as people in rural areas lack access to information.

She further revealed that each of the country's constituencies will benefit from the project as three digital television sets will be sent to all the constituencies.
