A total of 27 people were killed on Friday afternoon in an accident involving multiple vehicles in Limpopo Province, South Africa, the Road Traffic Management Corporation confirmed to Xinhua.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation spokesperson Simon Zwane said it is difficult to find out how many cars were involved and the cause of the accident for now.

"A minibus, a SUV and a truck were some of the vehicles involved in the collision."

"The Road Traffic Management Corporation has dispatched its team of crash investigators to probe the exact cause of crash," Zwane said.

Local emergency service ER24 said paramedics arrived at the scene of the accident around 4:00 p.m., and the injured were transported to several hospitals.

The road N1, where the crash took place in Limpopo, is a connection between South Africa and Zimbabwe. It was closed for both directions.
